Pinotage, the cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, was bred in 1925 at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa, where it quickly became one of the country's most important grape varieties. The variety ripens early by South African standards and tends to have a high sugar content. Not least because of this, Pinotage feels right at home on Lake Zurich. Its blending partner Syrah comes from France and is also globally known and popular.
After two years in barrique, the tannins from the Pinotage are nicely integrated and its character shows its full effect. The fruity Syrah rounds out the overall picture. A wine that remains in the memory for a long time.
